Welkom in Amsterdam!

“After a few years’ pout, the beautiful city of Amsterdam has found its old self – quirky, creative and open-minded. The city’s gorgeous looks haven’t faded either. The moments you spend ogling the old merchants’ villas, the Jordaan’s charming lanes or the lush Vondelpark are as magical now as in centuries past. The cafés are full, the museums are littered with Golden Age art and everyone still parties like there’s no tomorrow.” – Lonely Planet.

This relaxed and hospitable metropolis surrounded by age old canals is home to some of the world’s best culture, art, festivals and design, and these are the exact reasons I visited Amsterdam. With only 5 short days it was extremely difficult to decide what to focus on, but after lots of research I finally created my shot-list and day to day plan for the city, most of which was centred around the beautiful canals and bridges. After all, with a flight time of less than 2 hours there is no reason I can’t go back to cover the other sides of this wonderful city during the fast approaching summer months!

Rather than give you an hour by hour breakdown it seemed like a better idea to just show you some photographs, as the vast majority of my time was spent walking up and down the canals; the Singel, the Herengracht, the Keizersgracht and the Prinsengracht; capturing the facades of the historical buildings under a bright blue sky and finding angles and shots to be taken during blue hour.
